ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Admission to the program requires the applicant to have a master鈥檚 or specialist degree from an accredited university, a graduate cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or better on a 4.0 scale on the last graduate degree, three (3) letters of recommendation, and acceptable score on an interview, an acceptable score on a writing sample, and three years of appropriate work experience.

The admissions committee will utilize a multitiered holistic applicant review process in making the admission decision. The criteria listed above will be evaluated to determine the applicant鈥檚 overall potential for success in the program. All criteria are weighted equally, and no one criteria will keep a student out of the program.

Conditional Admission

Applicants who do not meet the admissions criteria may submit a letter of appeal. The applicant may submit an appeal request form and must include the following: (a) an acceptable work record (resume or curriculum vita), three written letters of recommendation indicating probable success in the program, and completion of the appeals request form to be considered as a conditional student. The appeal鈥檚 form will be submitted to the Department Chair. The department chair will provide a recommendation for approval. The Dean will make the final decision.

DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

The doctoral degree in Educational Leadership with a concentration in PreK-12 Administration is designed to offer students the experience of advanced study and research in their field of specialization.听 Study at the doctoral level requires a high level of motivation, dedication, and persistence by students who are committed to:听 (1) improving their personal and professional goals, and (2) advancing knowledge in their chosen field of study through independent and high quality dissertation research. 听

The degree requirements consist of the following:

1.听听听听听听听听 A minimum of sixty (60) semester hours of approved course work beyond the Master鈥檚 Degree is required:

2.听听听听听听听听 Twelve (12) semester hours of general doctoral core;

2.听听听听听听听听 Thirty-six (36) semester hours of courses within the major core;

3.听听听听听听听听 Six (6) hours of electives; and

4.听听听听听听听听 Six to fifteen (6-15) semester hours of credit for the satisfactory completion of the doctoral dissertation.

Also required is the successful completion of a written qualifying and听 comprehensive examination and residency of a minimum of eighteen (18) semester hours over a period of four (4) semesters.听 All courses must be taken in order. Candidates must see their advisor prior to registering each semester.

Grades of 鈥淐鈥 or lower cannot count toward the doctoral degree, nor does the grade of 鈥淐鈥 or lower meet the eligibility requirements for the Comprehensive Examinations.听 Courses with a 鈥淐鈥 or lower must be retaken for a higher grade.听 Students can only retake a course a maximum of two times. Students not successfully completing a course with a grade of 鈥淏鈥 or better after the second attempt may be dismissed from the degree program.
