Holloway

Kennedy Holloway

With a GPA of 3.23 and a projected graduation date of Fall 2026, Kennedy Holloway is far more than a student at 91制片厂. She鈥檚 a powerhouse of leadership, academic ambition, and community engagement.

A proud member of TSU鈥檚 Honors College since 2022, Kennedy began her collegiate journey as a court, bringing the same discipline from the field into her academic and professional pursuits. Her commitment to excellence has earned her numerous accolades, including the听Dorothy Heights Foundation Scholarship听and the听Yvonne Y. Clark Scholarship, both awarded in 2024 for academic merit and leadership in STEM.

Kennedy鈥檚 resume is rich with involvement in organizations that promote both professional and personal growth. As听Vice President of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE)听and听Treasurer for the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)听in 2023-2024, she exemplifies what it means to lead with purpose. Her role as听Community Service Chair for Women of Empowerment, an organization she joined in Fall 2023, further demonstrates her passion for giving back. Her leadership journey also extends into civic engagement鈥擪ennedy was initiated into听Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.听in Spring 2024, where she serves as the听Political Awareness & Involvement Chair.

In 2023, Kennedy was selected for Procter & Gamble鈥檚听STANDOUT Program, a prestigious recognition that highlights top emerging talent. In 2025, her drive for excellence and representation took her to the听H.NAYLOR FITZHUGH Conference, where she engaged in high-impact networking with Black CEOs and executives, participated in a Harvard Business School case study, and received sponsorship from Southern Company.

Kennedy鈥檚 technical journey is equally impressive. She conducts innovative听research on AI-assisted design for a coaxial 3D printing nozzle听and secured a coveted听internship at Georgia Power Company鈥檚 Plant Scherer听for Summer 2025. Her experience also includes a听co-op with Toyota in Texas, where she鈥檒l be working in quality engineering, gaining valuable insight into the automotive sector.

Looking ahead, Kennedy plans to pursue a听Professional Engineering (PE) license, gain experience in the听energy and automotive industries, and eventually earn her听MBA鈥攍aying the groundwork for a dynamic and impactful career.

Kennedy Holloway embodies the next generation of leaders in engineering and beyond鈥攂lazing trails in technology, equity, and empowerment. Her journey is just beginning, but her impact is already undeniable.

Marques

Marques Lewis

Marques Lewis is a junior at TSU, originally from Chicago, IL. He is set with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering graduate in Fall of 2025 with plans to work for a top prestigious company in engineering. Marques served at the Secretary for NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers), he was recently voted in as the Vice President of the organization.

He is a natural born problem solver with a deep interest in mechanics & vehicles. During his high school career Marques received college credits by taking a course in Automotive Engineering. Marques is a very kinesthetic individual who鈥檚 open to learning & exploring new trends in the field. His involvements speak on his dedication to his growing career is also a current member of American Society of Mechanical Engineering & he aided as a Committee Member for Engineers Week in 2024. In addition to focusing on his academics Marques has served as a Resident Assistant since 2022 helping students from all classifications get more involved-on campus.

Marques is a 2-Time competitor in the AMIE (Advancing Minorities Interest in Engineering) Design Competition in 2023-2024. He鈥檚 also a consistent attendee of the annual BEYA (Be Everything You Are)听& NSBE conferences that are held in various states throughout the US. In September of 2023 Marques was notified that he was one of four students to accepted in the ACES (Accessing Career in Energy Summit) held in Little Rock, Arkansas. During this summit he learned about major energy companies in the United States where he also competed in an Energy Case Competition earning the spot of 2nd听Place over four HBCU鈥檚.

Recently, Marques received an exclusive invitation to the Thurgood Marshall College Fund-HBCU Kiewit Immersion in Dallas, TX. Just now he was awarded a $10,000 scholarship from the program & an internship with Kiewit. This summer Marques will be interning as Equipment Engineer where he will tend to diagnose faults & malfunctions, ensure proper performance & compliance with specifications. In 2023, accepted another internship with Wal-Mart Leadership Summit where he was in Global Technology in Software Engineering Program.

Every year since 2021 Marques has made the Dean鈥檚 List averaging a GPA of 3.29 & he continues to maintain this academic record. As a freshman he chose to partake in co-op in position with DTE Energy in the Data Operations Department where he learned the importance of time management.

Widely known as Student Engineer Leader, Mr. Lewis plans to make a significant legacy in the College of Engineering as he aims to earn his degree.

IpekIpek Ismael

Ipek Ismael is a senior at 91制片厂. She听
will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Civil听
Engineering in Spring 2023. She hails from Kurdistan, and听
moved to the United States in 2014, with no written or听
spoken knowledge of the English language. Her current听
achievements are testament to her determination and听
positive attitude in life.听

She graduated from Nashville State Community College听
with an Associate of Science degree in Civil Engineering.听
She then transferred to TSU in the Summer of 2021 to advance her higher education.听
Her exceptional contributions to getting the TSU College of Engineering recognized听
at a regional and national level has encouraged every student that she meets to follow听
her lead. She has joined many engineering organizations such as American society of听
Civil Engineers (ASCE), Architectural Engineering Institute (AEI), Water Professionals
(WP), and Institute of Transportation Engineering (ITE). She led the TSU ASCE
Student Chapter for nearly two years with unmatched intensity and effort, winning听
scholarships and awards from regional and national ASCE chapters. The then听
president of Nashville ASCE compared the transformation of TSU ASCE student听
chapter under Ipek鈥檚 leadership to 鈥淣ight and Day.鈥 Ipek revitalized the chapter and听
inspired many younger students to really blossom and grow. Every student around听
Ipek is motivated by her charisma and leadership to uplift others and embody her听
spirit.

Ipek can be described as the keystone of the concrete canoe team at TSU. She
succeeded in putting together a highly motivated team and was able to put TSU on听
the ASCE regional map for the first time. She led the team to a third-place finish in听
the 2022 co-ed race, winning praise from the judges and other participants. The team听
put in an even more inspired performance this year, with significant technical and听
interpersonal improvements.

In the summer of 2022, Ipek interned with Hensel Phelps Construction co. She听
enjoyed her time learning about how the construction world works. Her team won
first place for the best presentation at the Intern Pushcart competition project at听
Orlando. At TSU, she collaborated with Professor Deo Chimba, an established
researcher in the field of Transportation Engineering, and presented at the 2023 TRB听
Annual Meeting in Washington DC. She was also awarded the David Dwight听
Eisenhower Transportation Fellowship in 2023. She has been honored by the听
National Society of Leadership and Success and has been recognized on the Dean鈥檚听
list and was honored by 91制片厂 for her excellent academic听
record. Ipek has been nominated for the best student chapter member award by
ASCE at the national level.听

Ipek is instantly recognizable in the Engineering School by students and faculty alike听
as the perennially optimistic and high energy person with鈥 Positive Vibes鈥!!

Khera

WhitneyWhitney Whitfield

In May, Whitney will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering.听

Whitney has been involved in the engineering department since she first came to TSU Fall 2017. She became an Engineering Concepts Institute Instructor and Counselor for two summers. She has joined engineering organizations such as Society of Women Engineers, Architectural Engineering Institute and National Society of Black Engineers. Whitney has held many positions in NSBE including Programs Chair, Vice President, President and then became the Region lll Programs Chairperson. She has also been involved in other organizations around campus including the Alpha Psi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and was also initiated into the Beta Class of the Alpha Alpha Eta Chapter of Order of Omega.听

Post-Graduation Whitney has a Full-Time position working with American Electric Power as an Associate Engineer working on Transmission Station Engineering and will be relocating to Oklahoma. She is very excited to start her new journey and proud to get this degree at the illustrious 91制片厂.

cbuford Chris Buford II

After receiving his BS in mechanical engineering and a minor in computer science, Christopher Buford II is planning to get his masters in mechanical engineering from 91制片厂, so he could possibly start his own business in the future.

Chris started his studies as a mechanical engineer because his family suggested that he should, mainly because he excelled in his math and science capabilities. He has participated in three areas of research at TSU, as well as an internship at Los Alamos National Laboratory, which spiked his interest in robotics and surveillance systems.

Currently he serves as the torch chair and program chair of NSBE, the treasurer of ASME, and many other organizations on campus.
